 About Us

“Delaware Will Shine.” Through this strategic planning initiative, the University of Delaware community will dig deep into the University’s mission and consider where and how UD can make the greatest contributions to the problems that plague the world, tackling the issues that matter the most.

The name “Delaware Will Shine” hails from the University of Delaware Fight Song. It says a lot about who we are, the strength of our spirit, and our unwavering optimism for the future. The University of Delaware is strong now, and it’s growing stronger through the brilliance of our students, faculty and staff, the impacts being made by our remarkable alumni, the stalwart partners with whom we work locally and around the world to improve communities, and the generosity of all who support us.

The key strength of this planning effort is the people who are powering it—the UD community. It’s a grass-roots effort led by three working groups composed of faculty, staff, and students from across campus, assisted by an executive committee. It’s a process that’s designed to be inclusive, thoughtful, engaging and responsive to bold ideas, fresh perspectives and new ways of doing things in the future.

The entire UD campus is invited and encouraged to get involved in the discussions, presentations, town halls and teach-ins that will be held throughout fall 2014, as we plan together the future of this great institution.

As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

UD is now engaged in illuminating the vision of where we want to go, bringing to light those challenges and opportunities toward which we will contribute our very best, putting our knowledge to work for a better world.

Listen now
And then we’ll fight! fight! fight!
for Delaware,
Fight for the Blue and Gold,
And when we hit that line,
Our team is there
with a daring spirit bold
And when we strike with might
Let foes beware
Our glorious name we’ll uphold
And then we’ll fight! fight! fight!
for Delaware,
Fight for the Blue and Gold,
Delaware will shine to-night,
Delaware will shine.
When the sun goes down and
the moon comes up,
Delaware will shine.
And then we’ll fight! fight! fight! for Delaware…

yellowrule2 The Delaware Fight Song, popular since the 1930s, was composed by alumnus George F. Kelly ’15. Its first appearance is found in the Student Handbook from 1933. It is performed at home football games and at other athletic contests by the Delaware Marching Band and other instrumental ensembles. yellowrule2
